The EcoMed Project coordinated summer volunteer trips to Sioma, Zambia from 2007-2012. Volunteers traveled in groups of 4-6 people for 2-3 weeks at a time. The EcoMed Project’s goals are to enable and encourage pre-medical students and medical students to volunteer in the clinic and operating room, to learn about how a rural medical clinic functions, and to be exposed to the ways medicine is practiced in Zambia. The medical clinic consists of an outpatient clinic, a female and child ward, a male ward, a maternity ward, an operating room, and a lab for HIV and TB testing, among other tests. Students will rotated through various clinics in the region, including the newly built Sankande Clinic.
